"we’ve got a whole lot of time and mistakes to be made
but the lessons that we learn we learn by living.
today’s another day.
don’t worry too hard.
just because that were not here doesn’t mean that were gone.
but we’ve got dreams in our hands and faith in our hearts.
and I’m sure deep down you wish there was another way
but this is who we are and I don’t see that changing.
one day
i want to come home
with big stories to tell
of how we saw the world and it was beautiful.

PICTURE UPDATE! [08 Apr 2007|06:52pm]
[ mood | excited ]
[ music | GUSGUS! ]

YAY! This weekend was a BLAST. Let's start with

FRIDAY!
We left around 9 and I drove and it was exciting. Around an hour into the drive, we passed some AMAZING wildflowers- mostly bluebonnets, but they were so closely spaced it looked like a feild of blue, not green. I took a roll of color, but obviously I can't put them on here yet. HOWEVER! It was kind of a quiet highway, and everyone knows my love of walking/driving/sitting/etc in the middle of the road, so...

Horray! 2 hours later we arrived at Nanny & Poppy's & ate lunch. Then, AUSTIN! Lala, we walked around & crap. Dad & I got a reee-he-he-he-ally nice parking spot & met Nanny, Poppy & Robin for dinner @ Stubbs.

Guster is obviously the most exciting. :) We totally saw them sound checking & I saw Joe on his phone & I love him! Then we met up with Josh, our volunteer coordinator person, and he was super nice & awesome & Boston-y! He was a cutie! (but not in the Brian-and-Adam-are-Cuties, in the Joe-is-a-Cutie-because-he's-so-sweet-and-brother-cute way.) Glad we got that one settled! We then had volunteer training!! We got outfitted in Campus Conciousness Eco-Team shirts, SHIFT hats & bags and a lot of stuff to hand out. Okay, so Adam & his wife (...poo) started this thing called Campus Conciousness. They're plan is to get a bunch of bands to join in (It's really just Guster, Barenaked Ladies and I think Sheryl Crowe?) to have an "Eco-Village" at shows and to green their tours.

So Guster uses bio-deisel in all their tour & equipment busses and has offset all their carbon-dioxide emissions. That means that they calculated how much carbon dioxide they would be using in a tour, with sound/lights/bus stuff/whatever, and donated money to a company that builds alternative-energy plants. I know, it's a mouthful! So basically they teamed up with a bunch of companies, like SHIFT, which makes environmentally-friendly organic energy drinks and donated free lip balm and hats and such that we passed out, and Ben & Jerry's and their "Lick Global Warming!" campaign! Way cute.

And more, but I won't bore you with [even more] details. Haha. Basically, the eco-team's job was to sell stickers!

They are super-cute and look like this! That is the Big Friend, gone green! (the Big Friend was circa Parachute- an old Guster album). They're $5. The pitch is (and mine was good!) that $5 theoretically will offset a years worth of lighting/utilties for a dorm or 300 miles of driving a car- like if you came to Austin from Dallas. You could also enter to win a signed guitar & meet & greet with the band! Each volunteer was supposed to sell 10. I was the top seller with 20! It was really fun. A lot people didn't buy them and were jerks, but there were also a lot of people who were super fun to talk to and were nice. Yay! After a few hours of that, The Format started!

We got to go up into the VIP AREA!!! (Can we say HOLLA?! Yes.) It was on the second-story deck off of the resturant. Kind of above and to the stage left side of the stage! The coolest part was totally going by the security guy and flashing our CREDINTIALS! The sticker version, but still. :) This gives you an idea of how body-to-body the crowd was.. lol. The Format was really good! I definitly want to hear more of them. The singer kinda pissed me off though.. a few songs into their set he was like "This is a monumental show for us...." (I thought he was going to say something about Campus Consciencousness) "...because I can smoke a cigarette onstage." Umm. POO! I mean just because he smokes doesn't make him a bad person. I really do need to stop mentally discriminating like that. But HELLO?! You're on a GREEN TOUR!! Whateeverr.

Intermission! We turned in everything and the 4 other volunteers & Dad & I went up to our VIP area (which was definitely HEATED!) and GUSTER STARTED!!!!
:) HA. It was pretty hilarious... Dad was like "Woah, do you smell all the marijuana?" and then Ryan came onstage and was like "Dude, you guys must be pretty high with all that pot; I can smell it from the stage..." and it made me laugh a lott.

YAY! Basically, they were incredible. I always forget how talented they are!! I mean it's obvious when you listen to the cd- but watching Adam & Ryan switch guitars literally every song, and Joe go from piano to harmonica to banjo to both at the same time... the then Brian is flipping amazing. He's so much fun to watch because he goes completly crazy with the bongos and everything with his hands, and then uses brushes and sticks and stuff and you can see the stuff flying off. Lol. I love love love them. They played a great set too! I have the set list somewhere, but I don't want to go upstairs. Hehe. I definitly forgot to bring Ping Pong Balls for Airport Song, but a TON of other people did, and that was really exciting!! And I said "DIRTY, OH SO DIRTY!!" which was also really fun. :) The encore was an old 80s song sung by... Brian?! It's just funny because he really sucks at singing. Ryan played drums though!! Hardcore.

AND THEN!! The fun's not over yet!!!
WE WAITED (VIP passes in hand! /stuck on shirts!) TO MEET THEM.
Coolest thing ever... there were these two hardcore old people who've seen like every Guster show in Austin/surrounding areas and Guster gives them passes every time- so cute!! We were with two volunteers who were really sweet. Definitly weird though, but that was nice because it totally broke the ice with the guster boys. :) Here's my little montagey thing.

Yay!! Top Left- Joe; Top Right- Brian; Bottom Left- Adam; Bottom Right- Ryan.. he insisted on taking the picture. Hahaha.
They were all really really sweet. Dad definitly introduced himself to everyone.. and they introduced right back, to all of us, handshake and all!

And FYI, Brian's like 35x cuter in person. I do have an affinity for cute drummers. :)

Aww. I still can't believe I met and had a decent conversation with each of them- Poppet, you would have been so proud!!

We got back to Nanny & Poppy's around 1am and then I was very tired. Hehe. The next morning we went to the outlet mall. It was super nice- definitly like an outdoor mall? They had like Coach, a ton of designer names, Gap, Banana Republic, DISNEY STORE!!, etc. Robin & Paul met us there! But then it was cold & wet and so we left and went to N & Ps for Passover time!

Passover was really fun! I love the random Jewishness with N & P. It really is a great holiday-ish thing. I want to actually do it next year- like only eat unlevened bread (matzah) and have our own seder, not just with them. Omiigoodness... DAVID, Amy's boyfriend, came! So crazy. Sometimes he got a little... pretentious. Like "We Middle-Eastern/Hispanic Jews don't really eat Gefilte Fish" and "Well, as a physics major.. blah blah". But besides that... he and Amy are really cute. And he's nice & outgoing and I think got along with everyone, so yay!! Now I, as the last girl cousin, need a boyfriend to bring to Passover. Haha. We played some nice Rummikubub and whatnot! After, Dad & Mom & I talked with N & P for a while. They talked a little about growing up and such, which I looved hearing. Here's my heritage on the Sivin side!!

Poppy is second generation. Both his parents came over when they were about 5; His Mom from Austria and Dad from Russia. They lived in Brookyln first, and then both (without knowing each other) moved to West Virginia.
Nanny is maybe 3rd? Her grandparents were from Romania and Russia. I love heritage!

And such.. I'm definitley running out of steam on this rather lengthy entry. :)

But this morning we went to this cool camera guys house and it was really cool and fun, but then I got dizzy. And weirdness. Que? I think I'm going to go to the doctor soon, so that's good.

And now I'm on the phone con POPPEE!

1. Childrens Fest = FUN! But I am sticky from la lemonada. Not cool! There were so many amazing acts!! Like the Flamenco dancers, and percussion/hip hoppers [with cute boys], and HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL PEOPLE!!

APRIL FOOLS!! They PLAYED HSM, but the ppl weren't there. I've just been deprived of April Foolsing. Hahah. Cory from That's So Raven was though! Seriously.

2. One Acts on Friday were reeeally fun!! Sadly, no Poppet night. :( But Mary Gerard was very good. The costume/fury/set wasn't the best to me, but how it was they did a GREAT job with it. And Hilary was pretty freaking good. She's always been a good generic girl part actress, but this definitly surpassed those other roles. And KELSEY! Let me tell you about that Hott Mama Fury! Ay ay! :) Mary Gerard, however, did NOT ADVANCE!! Freaking TARTUFFLE did. WTH?! It was re-he-he-heeeeally bad. I mean farce's CAN be funny- but the script was badly cut and the parts played horribly. With the exception of the little girl. Otherwise, either overdone to the point of ridiculousness or not overdone enough, so it wasn't funny. POO. Next was MACBETH!! (which i said like 345 times IN THE THEATRE AND I SUCK.) I loooved the set & costume design- incredibly simplistic and interestingly done with like scarves used as character costumes. Macbeth, however gorgeous, was sliiightly distracting. AYEEE LOOOVE YEEWWW!! and lots of mouth excercise-y ness looking facial expressions. Heheh. The Magic Fire was Creek's. It was good... just exactly the same as Ballyhoo? Whaa? Madison was really good!! It's so weird seeing people I haven't seen in 4 years be all grown up and low voiced. And tall. Haha.

After UIL Rachael, Jen & I had an impromptu girls night! we went to sleep rather early after gobbling down some BWW & brownies from Big Poppa! Yeeah! And Scrubs & The Office. :) Yay! Scary storm of doom!! Pile in Jens bed. Ouch. Hahaha. Then in the morning Starbucks/Target/School. I totally wish I signed up in time to do something UIL academic!! Ohh well.

3. I got accepted as a Guster volunteer! HUZZAH! I'm really really really really excited!! I <3 campus consciencnesss. And I should probably learn how to spell that. Con-science... ness. :)

4. Applied for Caffino's this morning via resume >> online. No word yet. Turns out they have like 20 stores across the U.S. and they actually roast the coffee right there or something like that... sounds pretty neat!

5. Watched STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE last night!!!! Umm, I still love it!! However, I can't believe how obsessed I was... last night I was looking at my "STAR WARS BINDER!" and found pretty much every paper article concerning Star Wars. Magazine articles, Newspaper reviews/clippings, TACO BELL FOLD OUTS, trading cards... I was(/is) a crazy child!

6. I now must watch the rest of the trilogy. Not the 1st, just the second.. actually, jk, ALL OF THEM!! BAHAHAH!

7. HARRY POTTER IS THIS SUMMER! So I've also started re-reading 5 to get myself caught up. Also makes summer seem closer. :)

Now I need to get the stickyness and sweatyness off of me... I am disgusting!!
Hopefully I got a smidge tan today though!!
Really, chances are good. :)

today after school there was a showing of the movie invisible children and it was.. eye-opening? incredible?
basically it's about these 3 guys who go to uganda in africa in search of a story.
they find child soldiers trapped in the ugandan civil war
children that have been abducted and put into the rebel army- learning how to fight & kill at ages as young as five
they sleep in bus verandas with hundreds of other people.

it was one of the saddest things i've ever seen.

my head is exploding and my heart is 'beeping'. we have to do something.

hey, hey shiksha godess... [25 Mar 2007|11:53am]
[ music | A Part of That- L5Y. ]

this has been quite a packed weekend!
FRIDAY was auditions!! After school poppet came over and I ran aroud like a chicken with my head cut off. Haha. We got down the the hobby center around 4:45 (auditions started @ 5) and were numbers 49 & 50! After a happy reunion with Chandilier and some people we started the dance audition- CRAZY HARD! It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't so freaking fast! So cute, but yeah... don't know how I did on that. It was really exciting though because it was so ACLish!! Like "45, downstage, 46 upstage.." etc. It made me really happy. :) I wanted to be like "I forgot my number!!" Hahaha. But I didn't. It would have been the coolest thing ever if I was 37. Anyways. We waited and waited and warmed up and then it took forever and then CAITIN & SARAH CAME and it was exicintg! And then FINALLY WE WENT IN AND IT WAS VERA SCARY! Poppet, for some reason, was incredibly nerveous. But she did really well. I don't even recall much about that. I attempted to send my voice messages of "more air pressure!" "connect!" "long o!" "open throat!" but it wasn't accepting. Haha. The people didn't let us sing the other one, unfortunately. But either way, it was a really good experience. And it was fun in the way that it was a taste of "real" auditions. Lol. Then Wendy's and talking and whatnot.

SATURDAY I was going to wake up early and work on the research paper but I was wwaaay to exhausted. And my butt hurt! Well, still does. Hehe.  So Isbah & I went to Global Vibes around 11 and were bitter for a little bit. I feel horrible about that- but it's just on a personal level with.. the lack of.. grace? she handled things with. That did not make ANY sense. But the Darfur thing? AHHH!

There are so many things in the world that we have the power to change. Some on a local level- like Longwood trying to get the petafiles out of the area, or putting Amber Alerts out and whatnot- that's changing the world too. REDalert- that's helping people. All the anti-sweatshop stuff... stopping child abuse... global warming (actually, let's say "pollution")... hmm. I guess the main thing is to not let it get you overwhelmed- just to do SOMETHING. Like 2,000 dollars, I think, is something. Global Vibes is such a great cause and I want them to make a bazillion dollars too.

We're going to write to Congress!!
1. AIDS
2. Texas Education
3. Environmental Protection
4. Darfur.

HOLLA!

Anyways.. it was really fun, and the African Dance troupe was INCREDIBLE. I absolutely love love love love love love LOVED them. They had so much passion and love and spirit. It's also pretty amazing because the leader is the mom, the drummer is her son, the guy dancer/singer is her brother, the girl dancer/singer is her daughter, and then the daughter brought her two kids!! SO CUTE!! One was maybe.. 6? And the other TWO WEEKS OLD! The teensiest tiniest thing ever. And I took so many pictures and I really hope they come out. EEEK! And the son? Totally white. So all I have to do is join their family! Although I don't think I can sing like that. Hehe. OR SPEAK THE AMAZING TOUNGE CLICKLY LANGUAGE!!! AAAHHH SOO COOL!!!

Hahaahha. So after cleaning and eating and eating and drinking lots of water from the spiciness of amazing happiness... I dropped of Isbah and went home, where I worked for about 30 minutes, showered, and left for THE LAST 5 YEARS! Turns out the performance itself kiiindd of sucked. Seeing everyone and talking nonstop about nothing in particular and running around and being goofy was really fun. And hearing the show all together instead of just on the cd was really amazing- i LOVE the music. Austin was so good! Hahaha. L5Y is about the relationship of a girl and a guy, told from their perspectives in alternating songs, except the girl starts from the end of the relationship and the guy starts from the beginning- so when Cathy is talking about how she's still hurthing, Jamie is talking about how excited he is to have finally met a girl he likes. It's sooo interesting and SO sad. Poppet, will you burn it for me please?? :) For some reason I have like 2 songs... but it's been stuck in my head all day!

OMG and so Eric has the disgusting hair for Mary Gerard- and at Whataburger Maddie was like "Eric, your hair is helping me reach my goal weight" or something horribly funny like that. Hahahhahhaa.

TODAY I need to finish this stupid research paper!! AHHHH! and then math project. Poooo!

....Better with a Fro.

Haahahha. That dress was reeeally gorgeous though. That print! Except I changed the waistline. :)
I did end up getting a wonderful Africa/Italy dress and a shirt from khols! Both on sale lots. Too bad that 12 + 34 + tax = $50, however. Hehe. Poppet, I took the shirt on a test drive today and I'm kind of in love with it. :) It's a really pretty blue, but only a little off from blue jeans so I can't really wear it with them... Too bad I did. Hehe.

Tonight I made dinner and it was sooo delicious. Food is so beautiful!! It's really too bad I don't eat so many things or else I would totally pursue the culinary arts. :) Central Market has cooking classes! Definitly on my to-do list. Hehe.

Yay! It's only Saturday!

Awwwww. Nat King Cole makes me melt into a puddle of happiness.

two days of DOOM! [14 Mar 2007|10:19pm]
[ mood | chipper ]
[ music | Jack Johnson! ]

...okay, not really. hehe.
>> AUSTIN!

Umm, I'm kind of in love with the city. Or what we saw of it.. it definitely rained the WHOLE TIME! But anyways, it's a mini-NYC! There's the different districts and streets with reputations (haha) and WEIRDNESS!! I really wanted a "keep austin weird!" shirt, but it was a smidge too wet to shop. But we did have lunch on 6th street, amisdt like 346457 bars, in a combo NY Deli & Japanese resturant. I got vermichelli (thanks to Jen!) and Dad got a Reuben. Only in Austin, right? Haha. Also, weirdest thing ever.. (i say that a lot. so maybe not.) Every time we saw the capitol buliding, I got this really strange like feeling of empowerment!! Like it was calling to me to change laws and fight for justice and all that stuff. Except I'm not really.... actually, with education laws, yes. It could have just been the amazing like "Free Speech Steps" and MLK states and really cool UT/Austin-ness. Speaking of, I think UT & St Eds can be a different entry. Lots to discuss over that. But so after the UT tour (which continued, despite the rain...) we met Nanny, Poppy & Aunt I at KATZ'S DELI! (Katz's never Kloses, you know.) And GUESS WHO WE MET?! Yes, Mr. Katz himself. Kind of the coolest person ever. Please see below.

Hahahaha. New York accent, most amazing deep rolling laugh ever, and such a nice guy! (even though the food isn't quite up to REAL NY Deli. Hehe.) Then we met Robin @ Kerbey Lane Cafe! Very cute & VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY! Another pretty awesome thing about Austin! And a cute (sliiightly tatooed) waiter!! And yumminess. Then Robin, Dad & I went to some mall that was exciting but didn't get anything. Good to see her again. Today we got up early, hoping to walk around... but RAIN RAIN RAIN. We did find Joe's Coffeehouse though! Very Austin-y. Lol. It had 2 other locations in Austin so it wasn't like "we dont know how to make anything" but it still was really unique & well run. Yum yum yum. Then off to St. Eds, tour, lala!

So we're on our way home and it's POURING and it's like we're inside those weather dupilcator things!! CRASH!! BAM!! ALAKAZAM!!! ("out of an orange colored sky..." hehe) Umm, can we say SCARY?! So I let dad drive. Hehe. Finally we get home, and then 30 mins later leave for my MDA camp counselor interveiw... took TWO HOURS to get downtown. Yeah, definitly could have almost made it back to Austin. Lol. But got that over with. I HATE those questions!! Like the Target interveiw questions!! "Describe a time when you were patient." "Describe a time where someone commented on your behaivor and you had to change" "Describe a time when you experienced peer pressure." AHHH!!! I don't know!! Poppet had a great idea- make up answers beforehand. Hahaha. JK. Kinda. Anyways. I'm pretty sure I really want to do it. It'll just be crazy on 24/7 duty... IDK?

So after we decided to calm our nerves and get CHINESE!! We went to Shanghai River- this amazing place that is one of Dads business people or whatever. And there we met... MS. ANNIE!! Who, like Mr. Katz, is kind of the coolest person ever. She was SO nice and so friendly!! Chatting about colleges and where her sons went and global marketplace and how I looked like a photographer and whew! Hehe. She gave us our dinner free too! In "celebration of my college career!" Umm, I love her?! Hahaha. I'm totally inspired and want to do like a photo series of resturant owners in their resturant. How cool would that be?! Except it might need like sound clips too. The accents (NY & Chinese) are pretty incredible. :)

After the lovely yumminess, Dad & I decided to stall traffic and go to CENTRAL MARKET!! Which is, btw, my new home.
1. Music! (Jack Johnson, John Mayer, John Legend... All the Js? Haha)
2. FOOOOOODDD!!! Umm, it's beautiful and smells SO good and is BEAUTIFUL! I'm coming back to photograph the cheese, breads & produce. LOVELOVELOVE.
3. Samples. Hellz Yeah. You can smell the coffee from like the entrance.
4. Organic! Everything! So! Good! Healthy! Ish! Pesticide! Freee! :)
5-10. ...food. Yeeah!

And now, many hours later, home! And full and fat!!
Overall, a good way to go. :o)
